THE HISTORY
For the past thirty five years, Mackenzie has been drawing sheep. Square sheep, slightly rounded sheep, parent and child sheep, big sheep, small
sheep…..in other words…..lots of sheep!
When he first began drawing them in the 1990’s they were largely a personal reflection on his journey as a father - guiding and protecting his own
little flock. The Good Shepherd, continues this evolution of Mackenzie’s rich artistic narrative.
THE DETAIL!
12 sheep (of course). Each sheep individual and uniquely crafted...the young sheltered by the wiser, bigger sheep, the relationship between them
all evident, all distinct in their own way. The shepherd battling the elements, protecting and safeguarding his flock as he leads them forward on
their journey.
THE MATERIAL!
Parian. A white, almost stone/marble like material, which originated in the 1840’s from the Greek island of Paros famous for its white marble.
Modern techniques have been blended with traditional craftmanship, resulting in a timeless sculpture which will enhance any space -
Classic, yet contemporary!
